The UK Health Show 2018, the country’s leading healthcare technology event, celebrated its largest ever edition on the 25th and 26th September at ExCeL London. Attracted by over 200 expert speakers and 150 innovative suppliers, a record audience of just under 4,000 healthcare professionals attended across the 2 days, a 20% increase on 2017.

A key new addition to the event was the co-located NHS Digital Clinical Informatics Congress, where the National NHS Chief Clinical Information Officer, Dr Simon Eccles, delivered his outlook on how technology will transform the next 10 years of health and care. The second edition of this key NHS-led event saw over 200 frontline clinical leaders and managers meet, network and learn about the latest developments around clinical informatics, as well as take the opportunity to attend the UK Health Show.

In providing an update on the launch of the highly-anticipated NHS App, keynote speaker and Chief Executive of NHS Digital, Sarah Wilkinson, set the tone for the UK’s Healthtech landscape for 2019 at this year’s UK Health Show. Patient-empowering and technology-enabled self-service also featured heavily in her opening address, as well as the emboldened standards agenda – a mobilising agenda which has been front and centre of the Rt Hon Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care’s vision for the NHS. With a four-fold focus on IT and clinical informatics, clinical and operational end-users, procurement and commissioning, the two-day event also heard from Non-Executive Director of NHS Improvement, Lord Carter of Coles, whose call for clinically-led procurement and price transparency resonated with the event’s audience of clinical and health management professionals who share similar challenges.

When asked about his thoughts and whether he would return to the event next year, Malcolm Grant, Chair of NHS England, said: “Will I be back next year? Well my term as Chair of NHS England will have come to an end by then, but it will be difficult to keep me away!”.

150 exhibiting organisations consisting of vendors, central government departments and core health associations supported nine dedicated content platforms across the show. Pioneering vendors offered cutting edge products and services designed to help the UK’s public and independent health and social care providers to deliver better services and, importantly, deal with continual threats such as cyber security and the challenges the health sector faces in procurement. The latter topic was covered by Lord Carter of Coles, who used the event to:

“interact with professionals, who have made some great progress and be challenged on some ideas’ Coles continued to describe his session at the event as a … “unique opportunity to get together with so many professionals”.

Mark Gill, Mobile Working Consultant, Dakota, said: “the doors opened at 9am and we were literally rushed off our feet until lunch time”

Mark’s comments were echoed by Jennifer Moore, Chief Operating Officer of MaineHealth Accountable Care Organisation, who commented on the power of exhibitions, saying: “I think it’s really energising to bring a group of professionals together who are working towards the same objectives”.

This year’s UK Health Show was the first to be held at ExCeL, London and the first edition to be held over two days, leading to a substantial growth in visitors and the introduction of new exhibitors including T-Pro, Sumo, Pure IT, HP Inc, and Distec.

Next year the UK Health Show returns as HETT - the Health Excellence Through Technology show, on 1st and 2nd October at ExCeL, London. As the UK’s leading health technology and smart health event, it will bring together a specialist audience of health and care professionals covering IT and clinical informatics, clinical and operational end-users, procurement and commissioning.

The event will educate audiences looking to improve outcomes and operational excellence by showcasing live solutions, offering immersive, interactive features and promoting best practice. As always, the event will provide an excellent opportunity to network with end-users, senior buyers, innovative suppliers and regulators looking to solve data and technology challenges collaboratively. In addition, the annual showcase will continue to provide procurement teams looking to discover and engage with new solutions and products from leading providers such as EMIS, Fujitsu, Content Guru, Bittium and Imprivata.

Join these great companies at HETT 2019 to enable your organisation to position itself as a leading health tech supplier and build a high-value pipeline of future business across both the NHS and the independent healthcare sector.
