From obsolete hardware to a digitalised document creation process fully integrated with the Group’s clinical system

Philips helps Holmside and Parkway Medical Group implement a new digital document production system enabling them to improve staff productivity.

Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Holmside and Parkway Medical Group comprises of two GP practices caring for over ten thousand patients of the Chapel House and Westerhope areas of the city. The Group has a commitment to delivering high quality family GP services through its excellent team of forward-thinking local doctors and healthcare professionals.

The Group’s previous non-Philips digital dictation hardware equipment had worked well, however with all of their PCs upgraded to a new Windows operating system, they found the dictation equipment had become obsolete. With an opportunity to upgrade, they needed a solution that would be simple to use, future-proof and value for money.

Fully integration with their clinical system

After approaching few voice technology manufacturers, the Group selected Philips SpeechMike microphones and Philips SpeechExec Enterprise software to route the dictation files workflow between the clinicians and secretaries. The technology swap was fully supported by the doctors in the practice. It was of particular importance that the new solution could be entirely integrated with their clinical system. This meant that finding patient data was simple while at the same time eliminating any possibility of creating letters with incorrect patient information.

The Group experienced the benefits of the new Philips hardware and software solution immediately. With the outstanding voice recording and ergonomic capabilities of the SpeechMikes, the clinicians were impressed with how much easier it was to handle the device, even after long hours of use, and also with its superior sound quality when compared with their previous recorders. In addition, adopting Philips SpeechExec Enterprise software meant faster turnaround time for letters to patients and the ability to see what work was in the pipeline for the secretaries.

A digitalised process that increased staff productivity

As a result, the new solution has successfully increased the speed of document production. The new system means that secretaries now benefit from a steady flow of dictation files, eliminating extreme peaks of work. Consequently, the new solution provides the Group with a digitalised process that successfully increased staff productivity and supported them in delivering the highest possible primary healthcare to their patients.
